• He told me the same thing about shotgun news. Then I asked if I could make an offer, and he said to go ahead. The cart actually belonged to his next door neighbor all this time. I offered $$$$$ plus postage. He accepted, and offered me some extra parts for $150 more. The parts were that M6A1 data plate, 2 aluminum bottom slats, and an aluminum axle housing. The total price tag with shipping came to $$$$$. Not exactly the bargain of the century, but those cast wheels and short draw bar suckered me in.
He told me some known history of the cart. I'll copy his entire letter:
Robin, I am amazed that you have taken delivery of the cart so soon, So pleased that this has been hassle free. The bracket on the rear of the cart was on there when I found it, it was with two other carts, that were wrecked, wheels were collapsed, alum had delaminated with corrosion & tyres had perished & the natives had cut them to get at the inner tubes for the rubber. The carts were found at Finschhafen in New Guinea, which was a huge US base during WW2. I assume they were used to carry ammo to the planes for reloading .50 cal brownings, & possibly several were linked together. My informant told me he used them to carry large truck batterys in the transport w`shop, & were scrapped when wheels collapsed. I have had this cart since 1975. Cheers Alex . What else do you collect?
